Tauranga Art Workshops

In 2017 we are running a series of art workshops for beginners and experienced artists. The art courses will be held at Te Puna Quarry Park Tauranga and we welcome participants from all over New Zealand. Come down to Tauranga and have a mini holiday based around the art workshop. The art workshops are fully catered for with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea each day. At the end of day 1 we all go out to a restaurant in Mt Maunganui. All the art courses are designed to improve your technique, understanding and experience in the use of paints. This year we are offering weekend art classes and midweek art classes in abstract painting with oils and acrylics. Come and join us.

TWO DAY PAINTING WORKSHOP IN TAURANGA

6 AND 7th MARCH 2017

“LOBSTER PIPE GLASS”

Drip, Splatter, Scrape. Paintings about what Paint can do.

With Yvonne McGill, (Master of Fine Arts (Elam)).

In this workshop we will ….

Discover the amazing nature of paint

Experience ways to work with tools to explore paint qualities

Explore different ways to achieve depth in a painting

Have fun experimenting with your new knowledge

Background:

My early career was as a secondary school science teacher and later I taught art, photography and various other subjects.

In the late 90's, when my children were young, I went to study art at Elam Fine Arts School and graduated with a Masters degree.

I like to explore what can be done with paint as a material.

My paintings are about the process and paint although viewers often see things within the paintings. I work spontaneously and try not to think things out too much. There is no pre-conception of what the picture will look like when I start, each mark informs the next. To ensure the work idea stays focused I use one or two painting techniques within the work.

At the moment I use rubber scrapers of various sizes to create thin layers of overlapping paint.
